What is Photo GPS Data?
Photo GPS data is location information stored in a photo's EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) metadata. When location services are enabled, your camera or smartphone records the exact GPS coordinates where each photo was taken and embeds them in the image file.
This photo GPS viewer lets you extract photo GPS locations directly in your browser and plots each photo on a map. It works with photos from iPhones, Android phones, and dedicated cameras with GPS.
- Contains latitude, longitude, and sometimes altitude and direction
- Recorded automatically by smartphones and GPS-enabled cameras
- Preserved in JPEG, HEIC, and other common image formats
- May be stripped when sharing photos on social media or messaging apps
