Coll de Rates is one of the most well-known climbs near Calpe, and for good reason. It’s a go-to for amateurs and pros alike. In the pro scene, this climb has one of the most respected Strava KOMs around. Every now and then, you’ll spot a group going full gas with a lead-out train, all chasing that top time.
The climb winds through quiet countryside, with wide views stretching across the valley with some occacional glimpses of the coastline. It holds a steady 6% average, so it’s tough enough to test you, but smooth enough to enjoy.
Most riders stop at the parking lot of the restaurant but you can continue the climb if you gross the gravel path first. After that it's a steep goat path to the actual top.
