Together with Sa Calobra, these are the iconic climbs on the island.

Puig Major is the highest point you can reach by bike on the island. The climb starts in Sóller and rises steadily for fourteen kilometers. The gradient sits around six percent for most of the way. It only gets a little harder in the final kilometer.

The road is wide and in excellent condition, but you will share it with plenty of other cyclists, along with cars and motorcycles.

Just before the summit, a large military dome appears on your left side. It catches your eye and looks like a possible turn. Once you get closer, it is clear the service road is for army use only.

The climb finishes just before the Monnàber tunnel. It feels like a proper end to a long effort. What comes next is one of the great rewards of this mountain.

As you exit the tunnel, the Cùber reservoir opens up between the rocks. After the work you have done, stopping here can feel tempting. Keep rolling and the second reservoir, Gorg Blau, comes into view and pulls you in even more.

Beyond the reservoirs, another tunnel cuts through the heart of the mountain. On the other side, the road carries you onward toward Sa Calobra.
