Col du Platzerwasel is one of the toughest climbs in the Vosges when approached from Munster. It begins gently, but once you leave Sondernach the gradient kicks in hard, reaching up to 12.5%. Most of the climb winds through forest, with smooth tarmac but not many viewpoints to distract you. From the top, you can carry on toward Col de Breitfirst, then either descend to Le Markstein and continue to the Grand Ballon or turn right toward Col de la Schlucht.
