Guadalhorce reservoir loop

Distance
103.1 km
Elevation
1694 m
Difficulty
hard

Rolling west from Antequera, this ride moves through open farmland and quiet plains. You follow the railway past Bobadilla and the edge of Campillos. Soon the road reaches the turquoise waters of the Guadalhorce reservoirs. After tracing the shoreline, the road rises gently onto pine covered slopes on Las Mesas de Villaverde. At the top you can enjoy a beautiful view of the landscape before you take the descent into El Chorro, a small hamlet with a few good spots to stop and refuel.

Once you leave town, the road kicks up right away. After Valle de Abdalajís, the final climb begins. It rises steadily to Puerto de la Joya across open ridges and wide cereal fields. From the top, the road sweeps all the way back to Antequera.
