This is one of the longest and most sustained mountain routes from Lake Annecy, gradually leaving the shoreline behind as the road heads through Thônes and deeper into the Aravis valleys. The climb to Col de la Colombière builds steadily above Le Grand Bornand, becoming more dramatic higher up as the road twists beneath steep limestone cliffs toward the summit. Colombière feels alpine and exposed, with a stronger sense of gaining altitude as the scenery becomes increasingly rugged. The return toward Talloires flows quickly through long valley roads and quieter sections beneath the surrounding peaks before the lake finally reappears near the end of the ride.
