Medio Fondo Urdaibai
A shorter and more relaxed version of the Gran Fondo Urdaibai that keeps the same mix of inland and coastal riding but skips the climb to Oiz. The route flows through green valleys, small towns, and open stretches near the sea, with constant changes in scenery rather than a single defining ascent. It is shaped by quiet secondary roads and a steady rhythm, with several opportunities to stop, eat, and recharge as you move between the interior of Urdaibai and the coast.
Oiz and Arrate from Durango
A classic inland route linking two of the most well known climbs in Bizkaia. Oiz and Arrate via Ixua shape the core of the ride, with Oiz as the main objective and a strong mountain feel. Green valleys, small towns, and quiet secondary roads define most of the day. The climb to Asentzio from Bergara appears as a bonus toward the end. Energy wise, you have three natural stopping spots in Munitibar, Markina, and Elorrio.
Eastern Urdaibai Loop
A short and charming loop through the eastern side of the Urdaibai reserve. The ride opens with the climb to Muniketa, followed by the descent of the Balcón de Bizkaia before rolling out toward the coast. The return to Gernika follows a quiet road along the Urdaibai estuary, with wide views over the water and surrounding wetlands. A stop for a coffee or something to eat fits naturally along the way.
Gran Fondo Urdaibai
A varied route that follows the course of the Gran Fondo Urdaibai, a well established local event that showcases both the interior and the coast of the biosphere reserve. The ride blends rolling inland roads with more open coastal sections, changing rhythm and scenery throughout the day. The climb to Oiz from Munitibar is the big, but very rewarding, challenge of the day. Small towns along the way provide natural stopping points to pause, eat, and reset.
Six cols from Durango
A green and constantly rolling inland route that links six passes through quiet secondary roads. Arrate from Eibar and Elosua stand out as the most recognizable climbs, but the real character of the ride comes from the constant up and down. Forested hills, small villages, and narrow roads shape the day, with good opportunities to stop for a drink or something small along the way before moving on to the climb.
Cols of Urdaibai
A compact inland route built around a collection of short, punchy climbs scattered across the hills of Urdaibai. Muniketa and Paresi are the main highlights, both demanding in different ways and linked by narrow, quiet roads that keep the ride constantly moving. The route descends the Balcón de Bizkaia toward Munitibar, where Sindikatu Jatetxea offers the only clear stopping point of the day, before the roads turn back into rolling terrain framed by green valleys and forested slopes.
