The ride to Vilaflor is a solid warm-up for a climb up to El Teide. We take the easier way up through Granadilla de Abona, then follow the winding, well-paved road up to Vilaflor. It’s a good spot to take a break before the descent back down to the coast.

Starting from Los Cristianos, this route rolls along the coast all the way to El Medano before turning uphill. The main climb kicks in as you head toward Granadilla de Abona. From there, it's a long, sweeping descent back down to Los Cristianos.

For a longer ride starting from the south that doesn’t go all the way to El Teide, this one hits the mark. Head north toward the town of Chío, where the climb through the Corona Forestal Natural Park begins. You’ll ride through a mix of lava fields and forest, climbing to nearly 2200 meters before enjoying the descent back down to the coast.

The South Side of El Teide

When you're on Tenerife, at least one ride should take on the full climb—if you've got the legs for it. This route heads northeast first, following winding roads, so you can climb El Teide from Güímar. Be sure to stock up on supplies there before making your way to the top. Once you’re up, it’s a long 2000-meter descent all the way back to where you started.
