Puerto del León from Málaga
Puerto del León (from Málaga) is one of the province’s most iconic road cycling climbs, starting just a few minutes north of the city and winding up through the pine forests of the Montes de Málaga with panoramic views over the Mediterranean shrinking behind you.
The ascent is long and steady, rising from near sea level to around 900 m above the city, with a smooth road surface. As you climb, the scent of Aleppo pines fills the air and the terrain shifts from coastal suburbs into open slopes and rolling hills. At the top you’re greeted by a quiet summit road and sweeping views back to Málaga and out over the interior, making it feel like a real journey away from the coast and into the rugged Andalusian landscape.
