Road Cycling Routes near Marbella

Heading west from Marbella, this route climbs straight into Puerto del Madroño. The ascent winds through dense pine forest, with clear views back toward the coast. From the top, the road drops into the beautifull Genal Valley. What follows is a quiet loop follows through the villages of Pujerra and Júzcar. Júzcar stands out for its bright blue houses set against the green hills. Originally the houses were painted blue as an promotion for The Smurfs movie but the village residents decided to keep it this way. You can make a small detour to discover the small town and all the Smurf references. From Júzcar, the road climbs out of the valley toward the main road linking Ronda and Marbella. Once you reach it, the ride finishes with a long descent back into town.

This route takes you with a giant loop around the National Park Sierra de las Nieves. Spectacular views are guaranteed on this route but be advised that the vast majority is on Autovias (dual carriageways). The loop can be ridden in either direction but counter clockwise gives you the long and pleasant descent back down the Puerto del Madroño to Marbella.

A shorter ride that fits in two climbs and a mix of coastal and mountain scenery. It starts with the ascent to Istán. The road winds steadily upward above the La Concepción reservoir, opening wide views across the water and the surrounding peaks. After descending back down the same road, the route turns west toward Benahavís. The road goes aroudn the town of Benahavís before dropping into Guadalmina. From there, a flat coastal stretch leads you back into Marbella. If you want to keep it shorter, you can skip the climb to Istán. That trims the ride down to roughly 34 km.

The route climbs out of Marbella on the steady gradients of Puerto de Ojén, rising through pine woods and rocky hills toward the village of Ojén, then rolling deeper inland past Monda. From there, go west through Coín and El Rodeo, crossing rural roads and open farmland to reach Cártama. Turning south, the landscape shifts again as you approach Alhaurín el Grande, with the Sierra de Mijas rising to your left. The return sends you back over Puerto de Ojén before dropping back to the coast.
