Road Cycling Routes near Antequera

Rolling west from Antequera, this ride moves through open farmland and quiet plains. You follow the railway past Bobadilla and the edge of Campillos. Soon the road reaches the turquoise waters of the Guadalhorce reservoirs. After tracing the shoreline, the road rises gently onto pine covered slopes on Las Mesas de Villaverde. At the top you can enjoy a beautiful view of the landscape before you take the descent into El Chorro, a small hamlet with a few good spots to stop and refuel. Once you leave town, the road kicks up right away. After Valle de Abdalajís, the final climb begins. It rises steadily to Puerto de la Joya across open ridges and wide cereal fields. From the top, the road sweeps all the way back to Antequera.

Starting in Antequera you'll roll southeast toward Villanueva de la Concepción on smooth, steady roads. From there, the climb begins into the rugged slopes of Puerto del Barco. A twisting descent follows. The road then heads east to Colmenar and tracks the river valleys through Riogordo. The effort builds gradually before the steep ramps of La Cuesta del Chino. At the top, the landscape opens up. Wide views stretch across the Axarquía, with the rocky outline of Tajo de Doña Ana in the distance. A fast, scenic descent drops you into Villanueva del Trabuco. The ride finishes by looping through Archidona and flowing back to Antequera on open, rolling terrain.

A compact loop packed with elevation, this route climbs directly into the limestone heights south of Antequera. It begins with the long, scenic ascent to El Torcal, cutting through layered rock formations and winding between cliffs and pine stands. From the high plateau it's a narrow descent drops toward La Joya, where the next climb begins. The road rises gently at first, then cuts through cereal fields and open hillsides on its way to Puerto de La Joya, offering wide views over the surrounding countryside. The return to Antequera is fast and flowing, rolling past olive groves and quiet farmland. You could decide so skip the climb to El Torcal that would save you ±300 of elevation.

Leaving Málaga behind, this route climbs into the western Montes de Málaga on a network of narrow, scenic roads with a real sense of escape. It begins with the gentle rise through pine forest toward Puerto de Los Núñez, then winds past Almogía, a whitewashed village. From there, the gradients get sharper on Puerto del Barco, a challenging climb with wide views across the valleys. After a descent into Colmenar, it's time for the last climbing section of the day. From there it's a winding descent all the way back to the coast.
