At 1,241 meters, the Kandel is one of the highest points in the southern Black Forest. It is considered by cyclists to be the toughest mountain in the southern Black Forest. The bare figures certainly support this view. With an average gradient of 8.2% over twelve kilometers, the climb from Waldkirch is certainly on a par with legendary Alpine climbs such as Alpe d'Huez.
