This is one of Gran Canaria’s toughest climbs, known among cyclists as the Valle de las Lágrimas (Valley of the Tears). It begins near sea level and winds inland through dry, open slopes before ramping up sharply past El Toscón. The gradients are long and punishing, often well into double digits, with little shade or respite. As you near the top at Hoya de La Vieja, the landscape opens wide to reveal the island’s stark, volcanic interior.
