Annecy / Col de Saint-Jean-de-Sixt from Thônes

Col de Saint-Jean-de-Sixt from Thônes

Length
7.2 km
Elevation
315 m
Gradient
4.3%

This short climb from Thônes acts more as a transition between valleys than a major Alpine effort, but it still carries the relaxed mountain atmosphere that defines riding around the Aravis massif. The gradients stay moderate throughout and the road rises steadily through wooded slopes and scattered villages above the valley floor.

Traffic can be present at busier times, though the views toward the surrounding peaks keep the climb enjoyable. It works naturally as part of longer loops linking La Clusaz, Col des Aravis or Col de la Colombière.

When you don't like sharing the road with many cars there is an alternative road almost parallel to the main road which is a bit more irregular and slower.
